The Knights of Columbus was officially chartered in 1882 by Fr. Michael J. McGivney in New Haven Connecticut as a fraternal benefit society. The KofC has since grown to 15,532 councils with 1.9 million members. The organization offers mutual aid and assistance to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief work. Locally the KofC hosts the Annual Chestermere Surf-n-Turf Dinner & Dance, champions the breakfast for the Winter Festival, volunteers with Life’s Too Shorts, Stampede Breakfast, Feast of St. Gabriel, Basketball Free Throw and much more.
